Master
Instructor Sam Hing Fai Chan began his martial arts training at
the age of eight in his native Hong Kong, China. Today Master Chan
is an internationally recognized Master in Wing Chun, Jow Ga, and
Tai Chi. Additionally, Master Chan holds a 2nd Dan Black Belt awarded
by the Chi Yui Judo Association.
Master
Chan believes in teaching by example that martial arts is a way
of life. He
will accept any student who demonstrates a willingness to learn
and who is on a path in life that has heart. Each applicant is interviewed
before acceptance at Chan’s Kung Fu School. Qualified student
receive quality training through personal instruction by Master
Chan or one of his certified instructors.
Master Chan’s methodology can be expressed
as follows: “Kung Fu is more than self-defense or fighting.
It is a way of life; it is the Chinese culture, humanity,history, and health
rooted Eastern medicine and philosophy."
Wing
Chun
Master
Chan studied Wing Chun under Grand Masters Ip Ching and Ip Chun,
sons of the Great Grand Master Ip Man (Teacher to the late Bruce
Lee). The bulk of Master Chan's study was with Grand Master Ip Ching.
Master Chan is a member and certified Wing Chun
Instructor of Hong Kong Ving Tsun Association, and is also a founding
member and former director of the United States Ip Ching Ving Tsun
Athletic Association. He has also acted as the personal interpreter
for Ip Ching on many of his U.S. visits. In 1996 Master Chan was
recognized for excellence in instruction and awarded the rank of
Master by the U.S. Ip Ching Ving Tsun Athletic Association by Grand
Master Ip Ching. Master Chan is also a founding member and current
director of the International Wing Chun Martial Art Association,
and is much sought after for his Wing Chun knowledge performance.
Jow
Ga Kung Fu
Master
Chan studied Jow Ga Kung Fu, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Jow Family
Lion Dance under Grand Master Lee Ngou who was a head disciple of
Jow Biu at the main Jow Ga Kung Fu School located in Hong Kong,
China. In his youth, Master Chan won numerous awards in competition
in both forms (empty hand & weapons) as well as sparring. Master
Chan has disciples from around the world, included India, Brazil, Canada,
and Europe.
Tai Chi
Master
Chan has had the opportunity to study Tai Chi with numerous Masters
over the years including Master Wu Bin, for Yang style and Chan
Style Tai Chi. Master Chan prefers and mainly teaches, the gentle
Yang style of Tai Chi. The goal of his Tai Chi class is toward the
health aspect rather than the fighting applications.
Judo
Master
Chan studied Judo under 7th Dan Sensei Chan Siu Shing of the Chi
Yui Judo Association, and holds the rank of 2nd.
