Kung Fu and Self-Defense
Like
in our adult classes, students learn a variety of punches,
kicks, and other techniques, in addition to learning forms
that help to teach coordination, balance, and structure
that can also help to improve their performance in sports.
Students also get to practice their kung fu skills for self-defense
through various drills and light contact sparring under
the supervision of Sifu Chan. We strive to make the learning
process fun, often making drills and practice exercises
into different kinds of games that are fun and enjoyable
for our youngsters.
Martial
Arts Problem Solving
Incorporated into our Kung Fu training
are discussions about the importance of virtues like compassion,
honor, loyalty, and trust. We also seek to reinforce a positive
learning environment by teaching by example these traits.
Students are also taught methods to resolve conflicts peacefully,
to keep their tempers, and to be respectful to others at
all times.
Chinese
Culture and Language
In addition to Martial Arts, children
are also introduced to Chinese Language and Culture. They'll
get the opportunity to learn some basic Chinese. They'll
also get to learn about Chinese History and Culture, through
discussions, stories, activities, and field trips. For example,
they may learn how to make traditional Chinese paper from
scratch, or visit Chinese exhibits at the local museums.
Children also get the opportunity to learn traditional Chinese
Lion Dance. |
