Jow
Ga is a traditional system of Kung Fu that originated in Southern
China. Developed by combing aspects of three different Kung
Fu systems, Jow Ga combines the powerful hand techniques of
Hung Ga with the fast footwork and blitz attacks of Choi Ga,
and finally the devastating kicking arsenal of Northern Shaolin
to become a more complete Kung Fu style. Jow Ga also includes
training in over 18 different weapons.
Jow
Ga has many benefits to offer students – an exciting
and energizing means of exercise, a way to boost your coordination
and flexibility, a proven system of self-defense techniques,
self-confidence, discipline, and much, much more!
Training
in Jow Ga falls into four main categories:
•
Exercise/Conditioning
•
Forms (Empty Hand & Weapon)
• Self
Defense
•
Sparring |

Exercise & Conditioning
Jow
Ga is a very physical style. Every class starts with a warm
up and stretching to help promote flexibility and develop
strength. Don’t worry if you’re not in shape
– regular training will get you there, and much quicker
then you might think. Jow Ga will develop your strength,
speed, flexibility, stamina, and coordination. You will
also condition your body to both take and deliver power
strikes without injury.
Empty-Hand
and Weapon Forms
A
form is a collection of techniques which are choregraphed
in a specific pattern or order. Jow Ga has over 20 traditional
empty hand forms and more then 18 weapon forms. Each
form you learn teaches different techniques, fighting theories
and principles, and provides you with a means to practice
technique, footwork, and when done correctly, provides an
excellent cardio workout.

Self-Defense
It
is very important for students to grasp the theories, techniques,
and principles learned in each form, and we help to accomplish
this through numerous form application drills and exercises.
Without understanding the fighting applications, a form
becomes nothing more then an intricate dance, and without
practicing the fighting applications, a student will never
be able to execute their skills properly in a real world
situation. In addition, Jow Ga also includes a Self-Defense
curriculum that exists outside of form training that helps
prepare students for real world situations and confrontations
using the techniques learned in class.
Sparring
Jow
Ga classes include regular sparring classes where students
are given the opportunity to spar against classmates in
a controlled environment. Sparring gives students a feel
for what it is like to have someone attacking you, and helps
prepare them for actual combat.
In addition to empty-hand sparring, more advanced students
also get to participate in weapon sparring.
